$3k for my DD
My car is my driver, hopefully not for that much longer, but it is for a while. Anyway, I have over 3k to put under the hood, the question is, would a 331 be efficient enough to drive every day, or should I get a TFS top end kit on my 302, a supercharger, or continue with the budget HCI I was doing and then later a S/C...?
My pass side head gasket is giving out so I need to take action
Aluminums are tempting indeed when the money is in hand, and Ive heard that those TFS kits are not that great afterall. Keep in mind its a DD and it has to pass CA smog. Suggestions :

I'd go with some AFR 185, since you want to run a power adder, 165s would work fine for an N/A 302, but once you put that supercharger on there, you'll be glad you have the larger heads.
a buddy of mine has 185s on his '89, due to that, the car has a powerband that starts at 3K, but once he puts togehter his turbo setup, he'll get some good numbers...
top it off with a Holley Systemax or an Edelbrock Performer RPM II, as for cam, I dont know cams too well

procharger.... save the left over money for gas
head's will drop your mpg in alot of case's. also head's will give you good power, but for the $2200-2500 your spending...... its not alot of "go"
i spend $600 total on my nitrous kit, and with a sliping transmission gained 96hp and 137trq from a 150shot.
hopefully after the tranny swap ill have alot more power to put to the ground, but im getting off topic.
if it where me, id save a bit more and buy a power adder, that way your getting 100+++hp now, and later when you do head's it will help out alot also!

The speed shop near me that built my truck's engine sells TWs for pretty cheap, would that be a way to go, or should I get AFRs

those tf's are a good price. I'd suggest the setup that jasper recommended. I would prolly keep your cam tho thats a nice cam for that platform. i'd also recommend the canfrields over the afr's just because i run canfields and love them
but to answer your first question, a properly built 331/347 is a good dd. i drove mine every day besides in the rain for the first 450 miles and had no problems at all. if i would of got it tuned before it blew it would still be getting driven daily. just my 2 cents
