Default What would happen if I........

What would happen if I filled my rear end all the way full ,and I mean to the top, with gear oil. I know you are suppose to stop when you see it coming out the plug locate on the back of the plate cover. The reason I ask is this......I have a slow leak from one of the seals and in order to replace the seal, I have to remove everything and if I have to remove everything, I want to replace it with a different set of gears. I dont have the extra dough right now to do that so I'm having to put fluid in every 10-15 days. I'm getting tired of doing this so I was wondering if I could fill it all the way up to the top so I wouldn't have to fill it as often.

IMO you might make it worse like if you fill a transmission over the fill mark you can have too much fluid and when the fluid expands from getting hot your gonna blow out seals. I would think the same might happen with a rear end you might actually make the leak worse if not make it so bad that your screwed.

you won't get it past the fill plug before it starts to run out and if you overfill it it'll leak worse and blow out the vent cap.....which seal is leaking?? pinion seal???

you wouldn't blow out seals, it would come out of the vent....make a big mess.

I think you should just fix the problem instead of letting it leak oil everywhere.

Yeah it's the pinion seal that is leaking. Is there any kind of stop leak items out there that I could just pour in that would fix it?

83gtragtop if you have around $500 I can have, I'll be glad to fix it. lol That's my problem. No money.

man if its the pinion seal get the new seal and put it on. when u tighten the pinion nut back down just snug it up to the crush sleeve. just dont crank on it and crush it more itll be fine. (but i would get it rebuilt eventually after that.)
