Default My Bullet

I thought I'd throw up a photo of my newest bullet for my 85 LX Coupe. A little rundown on the specs.

347 Cubic inch Nitrous ready
10.92 Compression ratio
DSS Level 10 Block W/Stud girdle and windage tray
Eagle 4340 3.4 stroke crank coated
Eagle 4340 H Beams
Mahle fly cut flat tops coated
Crane Custom Ground Hyd roller cam (cam specs witheld)
FMS lightened Hyd roller lifters
Cloyes Hex adjust Timing Set
Melling Oil pump
Milodon Oil pan
Fluidampr
TCI Flexplate

Ported Edelbrock Victor Jr Heads now with 208/160 valves with 5 angle valve job. Ported to flow 323/220 Behive BBC springs Titainium retainers, Comp guide plates and ARP 7/16 studs. 59cc unshrouded chambers

Comp Pro magnum 1.6 roller rockers, Comp stud Girdles and Comp Hi-Tech Push rods

Highly ported Victor Jr intake ports matched to heads using scope to match ports

Modded HP 750 Cfm Holley flows 830 CFM

Mallory Dist, Mallory 6AL, Mallory Coil.
Summit Timing cover
CSI Electric water pump (not shown in this photo)

This engine makes 581 HP and 499 lbsft of torque.
The idea behind this engine was to build a streetable high HP engine that looks pretty suttle from the outside but packs some good power and can push a 3000 pound coupe into the 10's. The engine has been run in just after this photo was taken but the car is still in the build process. I plan on using around a 150 shot as well (just to see if I can split the block, lol)
I am a retired engine builder and head porter.

Yeah I had pretty much the same reaction when we ran it on the dyno. I was looking for 540-550. Most of the ones I built for my customers dynoed just over 500 without as much port work and using the stock 2.05 valves. I like the AFR heads better and almost went with a set of 225s but I was going down the cheaper road. I've got around 11K in this engine already. All going into a 5K dollar car, lol

A good CNC'd Block with the right machine work can stand 700hp. If you put in ARP main studs and a good girdle it stops main Cap Walk Then add in Valley braces and it's good to go. The machine work have a lot to do with it as well. A poorly machined block will split at 500hp. The better balance the engine has works in it's favor as well. DSS does some incredible machine work on their level 10 and 20 blocks. I just didn't want screw in freeze plugs. I almost bought a man-O-War block but this was a budget build and knowing the weakness in these blocks had me keeping it streetable. If I had purchaced a Dart, World or Boss Block it would have been katey bar the door. I have to set my self limitations or I'll end up with a really quick but balky to drive street car.

No Doubt its a weak design, DSS rates the blocks at 650hp, they have guys running 750-800 and still havnt split. I doubt I ever have a problem untiil I start dumping big nitrous loads on it. If I keep the shot below 150 I feel pretty confident. Of all the 5.0's Ive built I've only had 2 slpit. Both times because of 250+ shots of Nitrous. When that Nitrous load hits, the engine will lay down more than 1000+ ft lbs of torque. Adios 5.0, lol
