89 GT shutdown

This is my 3rd time posting
I've tried to quick diagnose and fix the issue but still no luck
The same issue is the car will quit running after it warms up
I have tuned it up with new plugs, wires, rotor and just yesterday replaced the coil with MSD
The car has a msd ignition system, bbk cold air intake, 70mm tb, egr, bbk fuel pressure regulator, 190lph pump, edelbrock aluminum heads, GT40 intake and full exhaust
I can start the car cold everytime but as soon as it warms up it quits and you have to wait 5-10 minutes before it will fire up. During a car ride it will completely quit as if the air and fuel just quit supplying, All the power stays on.
Please advise further
Thanks

so when it won't start does it not have fuel or spark?? have you checked that??.. do you even know how to check for that??:)

are you sure you are in time with your distributor?

If the car runs fine except for the current issue, timing will not cause that.

I can hear the fuel pump turn on as the key is turned to the on position
I did check the spark and didn't see much as I was expecting to get knocked back a bit
I had the TFI module tested at a local parts store and it checked good
They could not check the coil so I ended up getting one and replaced it

mjr46 11-23-2008 10:59 AM

just cause tfi was tested at store doesn't mean it's good, I've replace plenty that exibit such cause by the time you get the part off and down to the store it has cooled down and the intermitent open circuit cools down and closes back up, it could also have a bad stator in the distributor....testing for spark is a simple as grabing a old plug and pull a wire and put the plug in the end and ground the electrode and look for spark jumping the gap while cranking......if it is a spark related issue....it could a tfi or stator.....in your case buying a reman dizzy would be quickest once confirming problem:)

what is a reman dizzy?

mustangsneverdie 11-23-2008 04:03 PM

How hard is the swap of the reman
How do I keep the timing the same?
My current one is a MSD unit
Does MSD sell reman units?
Thanks
