Got a new Stang

so, you have the water pump and just need to swap it out? If I was getting offers on it I'd just tell them, "Hey, the transimission is a bit jerky on the down shift, and the water pump needs to be replaced...I can replace it for you, or give you the new pump to replace it with." and see what they say...
you never know, they could be looking for a project car and take it off your hands as is cause they plan on blowing the tranny up any way and replacing it to handle all the horses they plan on throwing at it. Never know, people have big plans when they buy a fox.

My 87 GT didn't hesitate or jerk either when shifting. I would just say do the full tune up plugs, wires, cap & rotor, clean the air filter, change the fuel filter, and maybe check the timing as well. Set the timing to 12-14 and it should run pretty good.
