t5 meltdown
#12
well its my second t5 and my other one lost the pocket/roller bearing between the input and out put and scored the out put shaft so its no good but between the 2 i have a nice full set of gears and i would just need a new input and use the second gear assembly in the bottom from my other t5 but i have a 1989 2.3l t5 in tip top shape and its most of the way in the car right now . they are rated at 240ft/lbs the 5.0 one is rated 265 which is still too weak since my 86 makes 285ft/lbs stock and 87-93 makes 300ft/lbs and use the same t5 except the 93 cobra t5 rated at 315.
Gforce makes a nice rebuild kit with straight cut gears

Some people can make stock t5's last and some go thru them like a tank of gas but it depends on how hard you are on it. It may have broken when you are just cruising around but at one point or another it was beat on hard. A TKO is a nice little upgrade or a gear set from astro, either way it is gonna cost you to stay with the game.

i have had it for almost 2 years with no problems. its very stong the rear diff blew before anything else. they are located in florida. i ran regular atf in it while it was breaking in then after 1000 miles i switched to gm syncromesh and it got so smooth and shifts amazing.
bernie (pro50sc) has a stock t5 in his coupe that has a procharger on it making some real good power and has yet to have a problem with it and i think he has something like 160k miles on it
