I was thinking to just go to the AFR 185s instead of 165 because no matter what future plans i have for the car, Im sure the 185s would be the better choice in the long run. Ive read plenty of articles of stock bottom end 302s with them with notched pistons and it worked fine..Then when i build a block, I can have them ported out and make a quick all motor 302. And bigger isnt always better. We did my brothers 01 GT. Stock bottom end,PnP stock heads by Kris Starnes, xe266 cams and long tube headers. made 308 rwhp. people said we should have gone with bigger cams, but bigger cam isn't always better

Why not just go with a set of Twisted Wedge's? You get the larger valves without needing to notch the pistons, they flow awesome out of the box and can be ported to flow way more the a AFR 185. They're also cheaper. They are the one head that you buy one time and will continue to grow with your setup as you need it. Can't go wrong with them imo.

Look at my sig...With my old heads, e7's fully ported with 1.94-1.60 valves I made 291rwhp 320 tq (dynojet). Then I did nothing but put on out of the box AFR 185's and I gained 1/2 second and 6mph in the quarter. I have not put it on the dyno again yet, but I know it has to be more than 300hp.

The reason I would not go twisted wedge is I have heard of people putting on the whole TFS top end kit and only make around 270hp.

Ditch that cobra intake for a better one.

You have heard. Everyone has heard but know one has seen. The problem with people and the Trickflow top end kit is they buy the kit, throw it on and expect it to turn good numbers. Half of them don't even get a tune afterwards. The trickflow topend with supporting mods and a tune will easily put down 300+ to the tires. Hell I made the power in my sig with out of the box twisted wedge heads and the car is far from being at it's max potential. Why don't you be completely honest!! the 455 hp is not N/A you have a s/c

Fair enough. I just hate to see people make decisions based on what they have heard on message boards or anywhere. One person hears one thing, then they pass it on like it was their own experience. Next thing you know you got people giving opinions on products they never once touched themselves.

On another note, that is some impressive power you made on ported E7's. Hat's off to you on that.

damn u picked up 6mph?? 291 is strong as hell for e7s. my buddy did 292 with lightly PnP Gt40s, cobra intake and e cam, and most people dont even believe that. So the 185s and a rpm intake should make it run..what kind of cam do u think? I was going to do a custom one by comp. What duration/ lift do u guys recommend ? Remember stock bottom end for now, notching pistons. Then i will build a forged 302 or 306 with 150 shot.
