Default purchase of a 89 5.0

i usually hang out in the Classic or 05-10 section, posting a question hear for my brother. He has found and 89 5.0 gt convertible. he said its in great shape but the paint need to be refreshed. Interior, motor ect is great.... only 45K on the car (skeptical here)!
with the classics we look for the obvious rust and cowl rust issues ect....

Question what problems should he be looking for in the 89?

Look for rust in the shock towers, frame rails and floor boards. Are you sure it does not have 145k?

I'm willing to bet it is 145k.. You can usually tell by just looking at the engine becuase 45k and 145k would make an obvious difference. You can get a carfax and prove him wrong and get it for a cheaper price.

Does he plan to register it in CA and if so...has it passed a recent smog check?
Was a Carfax report run?

89 is going to have problems. I usually go for a car that looks good because, there is always going to be something wrong mechanically. Just hearing about it, I would say a thousand to 1500 dollars at the most.

Look at the undercarraige, door skins and check for leaks!
