Default ECM and injector identification questions

Hi all,

I got to rooting around in my '94 cobra and I found that the computer is apparently not stock. It's painted black, with a blue sticker on it saying something to the effect that the computer has been tested under all sorts of conditions and meets OE emissions and performance standards. Nowhere does it say who actually sells the stupid thing. It has a couple of numbers typed into blanks on the label. They are:

8-4733
0898IG

I take it this has programming in it to help deal with the (now nonfunctional) supercharger that was installed on the car. Any clue as to what sort of changes might have been made?

The injectors: The previous owner listed the installation of 24 lb/hr injectors as a modification that had been done prior to him owning the car. That's the stock injector size, isn't it? I looked at the injectors, and without taking the upper intake off so I could see them closely, I can say that the upper portion of the injectors is light blue. There are no colored bands on them anywhere. Does that sound like 24 lb injectors?

Something like.......

If so, you have a remanufactured Cardone ECM with a part number for 1988-1990 5.0L Mustangs with manual transmission and California Emissions compliant....... or the equivalent to a A9S program code, calibrated for 19# injectors.

I don't have the numbers in front of me, but the maf is a correct stock unit from the local ford dealership. I seem to recall the number 70 being on the sensor somewhere.

Why would my car need an ecm recalibrated for the same injector size it came with?

And yes, my ecm looks like the black on in the picture above.

Because the ECM you have is not calibrated for 24# injectors since it's not a Cobra ECM.

I just picked up a used pms by anderson ford motorsports. What I'll probably do is put the original computer back in the car and install the pms. I've got a lot of reading to do to learn about it, but from what a couple of local guys have told me, the pms is perhaps the best piggyback system out there for the '94-95's at least. There seems to be some record-holding cars running them, in any case. I'm still trying to figure out which version I have, 3 or 4.

In any case, maybe this will allow me to get the car running right, especially when I install the wideband.
