I'd take a 347 over a 331 any day, more cubes less boost. You can come close to your 500 hp goal on a NA 347 which would save you a lot of money. Use the money you save and buy an assembled shortblock from Fordstrokers in whatever aftermarket block you can afford. Another option is to go the a 351W based package, then you can use a stock block and be safe outputwise until 6-700 hp. They can also give you information on what would be a good match in terms of cylinder heads.

Thanks for the info. I was actually looking at that Fordstrokers site. There's seems to be much more "personalization" with that site in order to fit specific build needs. Definitely a good site that if I don't order from, I will take A LOT of info from. Excellent stuff!

I was thinking of going with a 351W originally, but I backed off due to the increased weight and driveline requirements. That's why I really decided to go with a stroker, so I can keep the same motor footprint and weight while increasing the displacement, horsepower and most importantly the torque. And I've been reading about 347's and their advancements and increased reliability, that's also an option if the price is right.

Kind of like I said in a previous post, I'm looking at more of a circuit build than a drag build. Like taking your entry sports car and tuning it to a comparable level of a supercar. If I was only concerned with linear accel, I'd just throw some juice in it and call it a day.

I think they buy those from somewhere else and mark it up 30% which is the average mark up for all after market parts

i'm surprised it took everyone that long to mention fordstrokers. I highly recommend them. Jim knows his stuff and i'm sure he could tell you anything you need to know about what you'll need. they even sell do it yourself kits if you want to build it yourself. Your definitely going to need a boss block, with all forged internals. no doubt about that. for cam its going to have to be custom. i'd recommend calling up jay allen at camshaft innovation, and he can steer you in the direction of the top end(head, cam, intake).

so, to sum up what i just said, jim at fordstrokers for the bottom end, and jay at camshaft innovations for the top. problems solved

also i noticed in one of your posts you said something about the "crank, pushrods, and pistons." and i think instead of pushrods your tlaking about connecting rods

Haha! I'm glad someone understands my dribble! Thank you for the correction there.

I really appreciate all the info and suggestions everyone has given. I will definitely be speaking with the two fellows mentioned there in ctgreddy's post. I now have a very good idea of what I want and where I'm going with this build. I'll be thanking Uncle Sam for the new lower, since I'm going to use my income tax return for the funds.

Again, thank y'all for the input. It's been invaluable to me!

DEFINITELY call Jim at fordstrokers.com... I got my 347 shortblock for about $1900 with . It takes him about 4-5 weeks to build, but thats because its a small shop and they personally do your whole build themselves... no assembly line or mass produced blocks. Definitely quality work and he knows what he is talking about.

My 347 with a set of AFR heads will put me around 440hp... 500hp will be very reachable and reliable with the right parts. Mine comes with Probe forged pistons and forged scat rods. Hell of a deal IMO

He also said that he builds about twenty 347's to every one 331 and that 100,000+ miles on a 347 is VERY common.

Drop 2K on the short block and you can use all your 302 components like the intake, headers, distributor, oil pan, etc.
