I was looking up specs on the 5.0 Explorers, and found it odd that they are only rated at 215HP. Do they really make that much in their state of tune in the Explorers, or do they make similar numbers to the 5.0 Cobra?

i would imagine theyd have a different cam, something ment more for towing but thats just a guess

Also, the exhaust manifolds are nasty and choke it down really bad. Aftermarket Explorer headers are expensive, but make a huge difference.

The rest of the stock exhaust system is pretty small too.

the have a cam spec for low end torque not high end HP

With the GT-40P heads, intake I figured they would have made more than 215. My buddy has a 5.0/Auto/AWD/3.73's and it feels strong, but they aren't even rated at 300 Ft/Lbs. Just wondering if they were underrated...

I have always wondered that too. i know they had a different cam,exhaust, and tune. Some I have rode in though realy don't seem to have much power.

I beleive the crown vic's in the late 80's and the the f150s were rated 215 also. How could they be the same as a mustang with better exhaust and cam.
