ok, I want you to follow my next words EXACTLY

1. go open your hood.

2. look at the distributor, look around it, underneath it, follow the 9 wires poking out from the top

3. tell me how the distributor is involved with dumping gas into your exhaust

4. get a new mechanic

the ONLY thing I can think of is maybe your timing is way off so you're not getting proper combustion and the fuel isnt burning throughly

Call him and ask him exactly how this is happening and how he knows that is the problem and let us know what he says.

Step 1: Kick mechanic in the nuts.

Step 2: Go to garage down the road.

Check the fuel pressure at the #8 wire going to the module and if it's over a 160 psi you will also need to replace the coil as well, lol

Seriously you need to find a new mechanic or have him explain to the BBB
