5.0 vs 4.6

5.0 vs 4.6
My question is, what would you have to do to get a fox body or 94-95 5.0 to be at around 260hp? And was the 260 mark measured the same way as the old 5.0's were? I believe the fox body was 215hp. And why is it that so many people choose to mod the fox body? I'm not trying to be a dick or anything, I'm just wondering, my guess is maybe you get more power for the money, I know it must be cheaper, but I'm just wondering what kind of times you guys make, and how much power for the money

I really wanted a mustang with a 4.6 but I could not find one in my price range. I think the reason people choose to go with a 5.0 mustang is because they are scared of a 4.6 mustangs. They are a little to complicated for most people to work on.

weird title...but ok.
any way, here's the deal. All 5.0 foxes made 225 hp...except for the fact that in 93 ford started messuring hp differently and got 205. SN95 5.0s got 215. But it needed the jump in hp to move the extra weight...
a fox is going to be quicker than a similarly powered sn95...which is one of the reasons people love these cars. since the fox the power might have gone up, but the weight goes up with every power increase.
people like to mod the fox because it responds so well to mods. this engine LOVES mods. and its simple.
not to mention that the after market for these cars is so much bigger than most, after all it has the advantage of years.

225 is bhp not rwhp. anyways, a decently running 5speed fox hits aorund 205ish and aods hit around 185-190. these cars response incredibly well to bolt ons. but a lot of people forget about suspension. you can make stock foxes run into the 12's with suspension mods.
anyways...260rwhp with just simple bolt ons is kind of a tall order. however you invest in a nice set of heads like AFR's and you'll almost be at that point. well thought out HCI you can get 300rwhp. either way the aftermarket for these cars almost seems endless.
i love these cars and chose to mod a fox was not in fear of the 4.6 but cost was a big factor, sound of a pushrod cant be beat. ease of working. coupes look sexy as hell IMO. each person will have a little different take on it but think of this. out of all the drag racing event you'll ever go to in your life, what one car you can almost guarantee at least one will be there? a fox!

ya i dunno the specifics on hp ratings and such.... but I own a 94 GT and I was disgusted with how slow it was! so, I just threw in a 331 !! haha lol made a bit of difference! lol if i would do it over... i'd get the limited amount of supporting mods then build the engine! although, that is completely opinion!
