What gears should I buy

Hi every one Ive been told to buy gears for my car because i have 2.73s lol now the thing is what should i go with 3.55 or 3.73 my car is my daily driver ???:confused:

I would get 3:73's. You will notice a huge increase in performance by getting rid of those high in the skiy 2:73's. Your fuel mileage shouldn't suffer, since you will use less power to get you in your power band. But then again, it all depends on how you drive.

With 3.55s i can coast in first gear and the car won't jump like with 2.73s. It will also spin its tire a little doing 50. It is bone stock too.

the rpm difference between 3.55 and 3.73 is so small, youd be an idiot to get 3.55s

ya i'd definitely go 3.73! i also went from 2.73 and I loved the jump! and seriously i can go way faster than needed on the highway with MANY rpm to spare! lol also, in town, I get BETTER gas mileage! lol crazy! this is a fun/great mod!

That depends on what the "idiots" plans are for the car and it's intended use. To the OP, I love my 3.55's and hated 4.10's so 3.73's may be the best compromise. I have read over and over from tons of 5.0 enthusiasts that 3.73's are the recommended ratio for all around performance. I'm sticking with my 3.55's but I'm sure you'd enjoy the jump to 3.73's as most here will likely advise...

dont be scared.

i DD 4.10 gears. its fun ;) do it.

AOD = 3.55's
T-5 = 3.73's ....for a DD!

302army187 02-07-2009 06:55 AM

why do you recomend 3.55's for a AOD timspony?

Had 3.55's in my AOD and loved them...then I switched to 3.73's when I had to change a bearing and just never liked them...With the stock AOD it just seemed to shift into OD way too quick with the 3.73's (and I adjusted the TV a hundred times!!)

...and I did run a 14.19@ 99.2 with the 3.55's, Stock AOD, Dynoxmax 2-1/4", old SVO 2-1/4" H-pipe, 15 deg. timing!...that's it!...'88 GT....
