alright, when i was changing my spark plugs the other day, i found a little bit of oil on the one from the third cylinder back on the driver's side, is that bad? and if i need to just rebuild the motor and nothing more, what could that run me?

that depends on if you will be installing it
250 in machine work. 400 if you have it decked. bearings will be 150 or so. Get some total seal rings, 100 bucks or more. Your pistons will have to be pressed off and on. You will want you crank polished and your rods polished too. If your crank needs to be turned, that will be 150 bucks with polishing, it may not need it though. Your cam bearings will be 75 to install and assembly will be 125. Your pistons will need to be balanced to your rods so figure in some for that. Truth is your going to have some money in it, if you do it right. You may get away with just throwing some bearings in it and a new set of rings.

Are your valve cover gaskets leaking?

to be honest, i'm not sure, i don't know a whole lot about cars really, i'm just starting out and learning. but the only spark plug that had oil on it was the one, if i got new valve cover gaskets would that solve my problem?

I wouldn't worry about a little oil on it, if you wanna conduct an engine worthiness test, perform a compression test and after that a leakdown test

go to auto zone or sears first and buy a compression gauge/tester
