Default first time to the track with the turbo motor

went out to irwindale raceway tonight to make a few shake down passes on the new motor. my goal was to get into the 8 second area and to have my motor in one piece so i could drive it home. first time ive ever had to shift my own gears at the track (aod with full manual valve body) and the first time ive ever had a working limited slip so burnouts werent an embarrassment. first time to the track with this motor/combo as well as this tranny. got in 3 passes that went as follows

r/t... 1.074
60'... 2.084
330... 5.564
1/8... 8.367
mph... 85.67

r/t... 1.129
60'... 1.872
330... 5.314
1/8... 8.186
mph... 87.23

r/t... 1.143
60'... 1.937
330... 5.352
1/8... 8.127
mph... 88.12

obviously a lot to work on. only been to the track 3 times and that was over 3 years ago. the second and third pass, about 4000rpm in second gear the ignition shut off completely for a fraction of a second and then came back on so i could finish the race. i need to figure out why thats happening. i need to dial in my 2 step because itll be a lot easier to build boost on the line with it. i didnt have the power down low that i should have if i had boost

all this was done on 5.5psi of boost. the motor had about 45miles on it when i got to the track so i wasnt about to crank the boost to 15psi just yet. also, the car has no tuning at all. i made about 3 wot passes in second gear around town, made adjustments in the pms and went racing. tires didnt spin at all off the line so i look forward to throwing more hp at it and seeing if it continues to stick. would love to get those 60's down

i took my video camera only to find out it was dead after i got there so no videos, sorry guys

Congrats buddy! gotta start somewhere. I only race the 1/4 mile but I know them 60's should be a bit lower. Still got plenty room to grow there. With a stock engine 4:10's and my old t5 I was still cranking out the odd 1.78 or .79 on the 60 with a set of slicks. Good luck!

i didnt spin once. i need hp down low. when i dial in the 2 step itll be easier to build boost on the line so ill have hp. with out the turbos all i have is a 331 with heads and intake that are way too big....just right for my 600rwhp goal tho. i need to make power down low and there is two things i need to work on; higher gears, 3.373 are terrible turbo gears. i need some 3.27 or maybe even 3.10 also need to set up the two step. its hard to watch your boost gauge, your tach and the tree at one time. when the two step is set up, all i have to do is hit the trans brake, push the throttle through the floor and watch the tree for when i should release the brake. since the 2 step is already there and free to dial in, ill start there and then think about gears.

would also like to figure out why the ignition cut out twice on me. once i get some dyno time ill crank the boost and hope for the best lol

LOL damn turdbo cars and there no 60s I have been fighting them for a year. a cam change did for us I have been getting some 1.66 off the foot brake. I have no trans brake in it yet and still working on the tune up for the 2 step. but it is coming around but those are around the same times I started at hell I took the car 2 hrs away to run it the first time so I would not embarrass myself with people I know. LOL LOL. Cuz I knew it was gone to happen till I get some tune in the car but now after around 12 passes. I have run a 6.66 at 109 and 10.37 so it is getting there I went 135 with the old cam and loss a head gasket with the new cam so no 1/4 mph but the 109 in the 1/8 was with the new cam and that was 4 mph faster then with the old cam and she don't go till the 1/8 mile so I sure it was 140+. good luck with it. it will come just a hell of a lot of tuning.

jeez....you do need some down low power, 8.1s with a 1.8-2.0 60! I mean ****...thats worse than stock with slicks and hooking well. You have to be spinnin to get that bad of a 60 mate. Any videos?
