Air Compressor
So I'm getting to the point where I'm buying all of the equipment needed to restore the body
http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/cta...emnumber=94667 anybody know if this A/C is a good bye for painting the car? The scfm ranges from 7.0 to 4.3 depending on psi. Any advice is appreciated! And if you happen to have a link to one that is acceptable if this one's not I'd greatly appreciate that too! Thanks |

Unless you plan on doing the body one panel at a time then taking a break, you're gonna run outta air with that thing.

I would definately try to buy a bigger one, a little exttra now will save you tons of waiting time later.

you want one with at least 12 cfm or bigger

when i first started paintin i used a small compressore like that it sucks! paint a fender wait, paint door wait, ect ect. i bought a used compressor cheap. its i big ol thing i got it for 100 bucks cause it knocked. put a rebuld kit in it for like 100 more and its been great. its older than dirt but its build well. may wanna try that route?

Thanx for the info. After I dug around a million archives I found out that air compressor was pretty pointless for what I need done. I found a 5.4 HP 80 gallon with 13.3 SCFM Delivery At 100 psi and 12.8 SCFM Delivery At 175 psi for $250 at a pawn shop in town. Only thing that sux is now I have to change outlet to 240v.
Sorry for my ignorance on the subject. I personally don't know too much about painting equipment but I'm trying to learn. My buddy took a "auto body restoration" class at the local university and painted his car up there. So I'm buying supplies and he's providing most of the know how. The spray guns he has are "low cfm HVLP guns" with operating pressures of 3.5 cfm @ 29psi and 7.1cfm @50 psi. With this compressor do I need to buy new guns or will his work? |
you can use the compressor at the pawn shop you were talkin about with those guns, ya will need a regulator is at the gun is all

I'd get at least 30-50 gallon capacity for painting:)
