Default upgraded afr165 Q

I have a aset of used afr165's with the chambers opened up to an equal 58cc or 64cc (cant remember) and the deck milled .020 topped off with AFM hi-rev springs. I am gonna be building my first motor and was wondering if a 331 or 347 would be to big for what I have. detailed comments would be great thanks

No, build the big end foundation, switch the heads later. Dont go small on the foundation (shortblock) to accompany a bolt on part (heads)

ya you can spend a bunch of money on them, DONT do that. If your going to do that then just think smart, sell them for 800-1000 and buy a 185 if you want

if its a DD i would just keep the 5.0 bottom end and spend money else where..

you can have a nice motor that makes plenty of power but that dosnt mean anything if you got no traction. i'd invest in some suspension mods.

what other mods do you recommend? upper and lower control arms are coming later. probably steeda adjustable i really like them.

so is a 302 the biggest everyone thinks I should go with these particular heads?

control arms are really all that need to be done.

What are your goals? I hope you dont have the original T5 in there :-)
If you havent, get some subframe connectors.

dont ever build a bottom end to match your heads. Unless you are forced to run a particular head for whatever class you are running.

Decide what you want to do, build the bottom end to get you there, then work upwards.

Its much easier to put on the proper head than it is to put in a new bottom end.

Exception being your head is in your plans, but dont build your engine arround a particular head (within reason of course)

slo50:
im not doing any racing of any kind just a summer fun cruiser. I happened to get these heads a pack of other stuff for a deal so thats why Im building around them.

Gary :
ya still running the origional t5 I assume as the car only has 58K on it. I understand that these earlier fox T5's had issues but mine works great except for the going into 2nd is a bit sticky somtimes but it might be the shifter not adjusted right either.

and ya subframes and control arms are gonna be done this summer I hope. after that I think I'm all set. right?

thanks for all your posts!!
