Default i have some starter/ flywheel issues. please help!

ok...i just bought the car maybe a month ago. it has always had somewhat of a rough, loud start up but just the other night as i was attempting to leave sonic the starter made this awful screetching/grinding noise. i thought a had lost teeth or something. so i droped the starter, and checked the fly wheel for damage. the flywheel wasnt even shiney, so im positive thats not the problem. i took the old starter to advance, and it was so badly fried it was shooting sparks. i bought a brand new one, bolted it up started it. first time was rough like it was before, then i tried it again and the same noise happened and the car wouldnt turn over. i have no clue what is wrong. it almost sounds like the starter is not engaging. the block has a somewhat bad oil leak. would this affect a brand new starter on the 2nd fire up? PLEASE help. i need this car working. thanks!
