Default 347 main girdles

Tried this a while ago, it didn't post................
Whats the current 'take' on using main cap girdles on 347's?
I'd like to hear from real builders/users, not the armchair group............

I build 60-75 347's per year. Main studs are mandatory as well as keeping the rpm down. The blocks break once the main cap chatters and walks around. A girdle will not stop main cap walk, atleast in the failures I have experienced. I dont use one on my own stuff.

For what it's worth, I run one on mine. I don't know if it helps or hinders the mains, but it's on there.

I wouldn't build a 347 without it. Anything that can tie the main caps together to help prevent cap walk can't be a bad thing. I run an aluminum DSS unit that can absorb vibration as well and if the block decides to split down the middle it can save your expensive crankshaft as well as other parts.

never seen a crankshaft saved when the block splits, usually one is going all out and things a go flyin'

The studs were always in my plan anyway.
I have an old 'SVO' aluminmun girdle that I wasn't sure about using, think I will now.
