Default 1992 Mustang GT - My First Car - Should I Buy?

Yes well, I found a 1992 Mustang GT on craigslist, there is another thread on either this site or another site about this car, it is the one used in The Departed. Thats right, it is the car used in the departed, here is a link.

http://newyork.craigslist.org/lgi/cto/1052069397.html

THIS IS A 1992 MUSTANG GT THAT WAS USED IN THE MOVIE THE D-PATED AND WAS DRIVEN BY LEO D. YOU CAN SEE IT IN THE MOVIE--ITIS A 92 GT--5.0, AUTO--W/137K MILES--TRANNY IS REBUILT. IT IS LOADED AND EVERYTHING WORKS--IT HAS GREY CLOTH INTERIOR THAT IS NICE AND THERE IS NO RUST ON THE CAR--IT HAS 17" COBRA RIMS, MOTORSPORT SPRINGS AND HEADERS, FLOWMASTERS, BILSTEIN SHOCKS AND STRUTS AND IT RUNS WELL. ASKING $3950--SLIGHTLY NEGOT--NO REDICULOUS LOW BALL OFFERS PLEASE AND NO TRADES. CALL ME AT 516-698-4402
THERE ARE A FEW PAINT BLEMS (IT IS 17 YEARS OLD) BUT IT LOOKS GOOD!!!
The car has 132K miles on it, the transmission was re-built at about 118K, and the exterior and interior are in awesome condition... it also has a clean NY title. Here are some pics.

The original owner of the car lived in California, sold it to a dude in Rochester, and the movie company then bought it from there.

I talked to the current owner today, he is asking $3950, he will take $3500, and he will take down the price even further if the car is bought without the Cobra wheels, how much further though is uncertain.

The car is the perfect first car for me, I like it a LOT. I travel to and from college, commute daily. It is about a 10 minute ride 2 or 3 times a day. The owner is about an hour and a half away, he owns both of the cars that were used in the movie. The other one has turbine wheels, not Cobras. I have $3,000 saved up, so I will take it without the Cobra wheels and save more money and buy some Saleen knockoffs after a five lug conversion!!! He told me the front fender and bumper were replaced for some reason (he said scratches)

Heres a weird story the guy who owns the car now posted the car on ebay, the original owner found the car and bid on it and won. He put a $500 deposit down, but then backed out for financial/other reasons. Weird, huh?

So what do you mustang owners think? Would this be a good, solid, reliable first car? Will it get me to and from school? My family members do not like mustangs-they think they are "Pieces of ****".

Thanks everyone, hope to hear some replies soon.

well it looks decent. body also appears to be straight but like always, pictures don't do justice compared to up close and personal. Interior from what is shown looks really nice! For 3500 I'd be on that, i paid 5 for mine and was in less quality condition than yours (as it appears anyway from pictures).

Looking good IMO! ...front seats & door panels look older then '92 (like '87-89....)

It looks good but no way to tell without being right up on the car. I think a Fox Mustang is a great first car. It's inexpensive to mod and parts are plentiful. I'm always leary over Movie cars though. Get it on a lift and look at it underneath because many times movie cars have lots to hide.

door panels are correct...87-89 had carpet not the ugly pockets

I would tell him 3250 with wheels...do get the car nice and hot before driving it to see if trans slips...
