Intake manifold baffle

Intake manifold baffle
i was told that my car my be burning oil because the intake baffle needed to be replaced or a bigger one put on. i took my intake manifold off and took out the baffle but all it is just a piece of metal with nothing behind it. does anyone know anything about it?
