some input on 28 versus 31 spline
i hear alot of people mentioning how strong the after market 28 spline axles are but wanted to know if i was going to be pushing my luck.
Come this summer (end of may to mid sept) i will be working 55 hours a week and pulling in good money so my plans are ordering and building a 347 Boss with a Kenne Bell blower, its a street car which will rarely see the track if ever. Honestly i'm not sure how much power it'll be making, my goal is 500 at the rear but i havent found too many 347's with the 2.2l blowzilla.
I have to replace an axle anyway, would you up the carrier now if it was you, or would you see if the 28's held up.
(for the record, if i go 31 i will probably go with the Eaton Detroit tru-trac posi.)
Thanks for the imput, its pricey to upgrade since the axle already cost me a grand (plus some other parts) and i have to decide what im budgeting for.

strange has a good set-up that won't break the bank.
31's with 3 1/2 studs, open lugs,c-clip eliminator's,there eaton kevlar unit cost me less than $800.00,but this was in 2002,but if you fast foward to today with all the track/street abuse that an idiot behind the wheel could give a rearend in 7yrs...i'm glad i saved and got what i got not a problem whatsoever no leaks still too.

Unless you're sticking to normal street tires (which would be a ridiculous idea) i'd go with 31 spline axles. That's the time to do gears also if you haven't already. What did you buy with the axle to cost $1000? Both of my axles were like $200.
