looking for a 5.0

well, my younger brother is looking for a car that is fun to drive, i said that he should look into a foxbody. Of course i have no idea what he should look for really... Any pointers on looking for a good 5.0, what years are better then others? thanks guys

I would look for a '90-'92, ('93 came non-forged) thats just me though, nicer interior and you have to think the latest mustangs have the latest equipment, although they are all pretty similar, just my opinion....

92 1/2 cars had cast pistons too. (atleast the feature cars)

first things first, how much is he looking to spend? does he want carbureted or fuel injected? where i live you can find a good fuel injected fox body for less than $3500 normally. notchbacks normally go for more though since thats what everybody wants, and therefore, they can jack the price up because they usually get it. '89-'93's would probably be the best bet. they already have the mass air flow systems in case he wants to up the horsepower with a head/cam job not long after he gets the car. granted the '93's arent forged internals, but unless hes gonna be doing some serious forced induction(n2o, s/c, or turbo), he doesnt really NEED forged. yeah, it sounds better to have it, and i enjoy knowing i do, but it doesnt really matter i dont think until @ 350hp or better...i think. plus, it comes down to body choice for him. i LOVE the GT fox's, but i know a lot of people that dont and prefer the LX's. mainly, comes to price and fuel system(carb vs fuel injection). if its a 5-spd, pay attention to 3rd gear. its usually the first gear to go if its been run hard often and shifted hard.

87-88 Had Speed density(88's sold in cali had MAF)
89 - Mass Air Flow used.
90-92 -Drivers side air bag was added. And ugly saggy ass map pockets in the doors.
93 - No longer used forged pistons.

I would just look for the best overall Fox....

grabbem88 04-20-2009 05:01 PM

same 302 power
aftermarket hoods look better
better alternator/electrical to a point
areo dynamics are better
i fitted better in a sn body stang over my fox

ecu is a pita

^^^those can be fixed.

stangalator 04-20-2009 05:20 PM

thanks guys.

hes looking for fuel injection and a 5 speed. He told me about 3 grand is what he wants to spend. Probably a 90-93 because of the airbags...

I'm not sure though, its his money

AdderMk2 04-20-2009 05:28 PM
