Uncertainty... Dissapointment...H/C/I..Help!
Well you all know I recently did an h/c/i swap. I got everything back in the car, and started it up today. Set the timing at 12* which I thought was a safe starting point and set out for a ride. Well the damn thing was detonating so bad it sounded like tap dancers. Anyhow, went for 4 more rides decreasing the timing each time (10-8-6-bout noting) and it finally stopped after the last try. But even from initial start-up to end it always smoked liked a bastard out the exhaust reaking of fuel. I'm assuming the computer just won't adjust to the new fuel system and it's flooding the engine making it run so rich all the time... is this right? I personally feel like 24lb injectors are needed to match with my other components but realize that my stock ecu is only meant to handle the 19's. If I get my buddy at Western Motorsports to burn me a baseline chip so my computer can handle the 24's and new fuel system would this fix my problem???
These are the modifications I made:
Main bearings
All new gaskets,
Timing chain,
Comp xe270hr cam,
Comp lifters & pushrods,
Ford Racing 1.6 rr's,
Tri-State ported gt40p heads,
Trickflow street upper/lower intake,
24 lb injectors with matching 73 mm mass air,
BBK 70mm throttle body and EGR spacer.
BBK CAI,
Meziere electric waterpump,
A/C and Smog delete,
Under drive pullies,
Ultrasport aluminum rad
Dual 12" Flexalite electric fans.
I pray that a Chip and timing will extensively increase performance 'cause right now it's a pig... definitely worse then stock...
Captain Morgan it is.... ******* fuel Injection.... Cheers!

Have you run any codes yet? What is your FP at? Got all your vacuum lines hooked up right? Did you reset you ECU or TPS? Lots of things it could be, some are little, some are big....mostlikely is something little. I know when my car runs like a pig and blowing lots of black, my ACT wasn't working right

-FP= fuel Pressure? no freaking clue
-Vacuums lines are all good.
-There's a reset on the Computer? didn't know that... I assume I gotta reset it then? How long would it take for it to readjust to the new fuel system and should I still get a chip to program it?
-TPS= throttle positioning sensor? please explain...
Thank you very much for all the help!

- yes the pushrod length was measured and vt geo. checked.
-how much preload???? dunno..
- manifold vacuum reading? dunno. had it idling smoothly at 1 fo all intensive purposes....
Thanks for the help!
...please keep it coming.

just pull the battery. thats the computer reset. if you had the sock 19's etc in there before, the computer will be using the old settings it remembered. then if it's the same as the 94-95's you take it for a drive, and perform 3 take offs. one easy, one slightly getting on it, and one WOT. then just drive it easy for a little bit. thats how it re-learns. thats the procedure we're taught from ford.
you shouldnt need to get a chip burned. i ran 30's with the calibrated maf. they work fine

TPS, throttle position sensor. Here is a link to how to reset it

And like said before, just unhook the battery over night, the next day, just start it up and let it set and idle in the driveway for a little while. After that, take it for a short easy drive. It will take it a while for it to relearn, but it is better starting over. You shoudn't need a chip or a tune, it should work fine.
What kind of MAF are you using?
What are your plugs gapped at and what kind of plugs?
I would definitly pull the codes before you reset the ECU then reset it and drive it and pull them again.
