Default W/A injection raise compression?

I was thinking about running one of these and wondered what they did to compression. Seems like water is not going to compress any more than it already is without going somewhere. Would it not be safer to run the fuel without the water?

i know that if you wanted to knock the carbon off the valves and pistons then just dump some water down the carb. I was told never to rev it though.
