Default My car needs a paint job so now I have to sell it - or do I?

One reason I'm selling my car - the main reason - is because
I can't afford a $3000 or $4000 paint job. It's not that I'm broke,
I'm not, I just don't have a lot of discretionary income to throw
around at anything and everything.

Here's how I got to where I am: a while back I walked outside to
take a look at my car. I saw something I'd never seen before. I
saw several areas where rust was starting to take root. Some of
you know what that means. Some of you have been there
before, in my shoes.

Thanks to the new found rust, I was now at a crossroads. It was
right then and there that I decided that since I can't afford a 3-4K
paint I'd have to do something I don't want to do: sell the car.

I'm wondering, is there another way out? I mean, is there a
cheaper alternative that would allow me to keep my Mustang,
or is a $3-000 or $4000 paint job the only option for a 21 year
old car that reaches this point in its life? If there isn't a way
out of this predicament don't be afraid to say so 'cause unlike
Tom I can handle the truth. But please help if you can.

the rust is just starting so its easily fixable, i would look for someone whos does paint work on the side. ask around. my ex gfs dad paints cars after work ,restores antique cars at work, he get less then half of the price you stated. but look around, and make sure anyone you have a good reputaion and ya can see some previous work. also a single stage paint job will cost less than a traditional base clear job. they are sometimes not a deep looking but can still look very nice with the modern paints today

surely you can find someone to do it less than that. One the other hand, I see cars like yours go for 3 grand that have been garage kept with no wrecks or rust. I wouldn't do it because, it would be to easy for me to replace it for that amount of money.

I don't think the rust looks that bad, and if you only fix the bad spots you could get out of it cheaper, but I don't know how good the rest of the paint is....judging by those pictures, it doesn't look great. Another option is to you a clay bar on the rust to try and remove the stains on the paint to at least reduce the amount that can be seen, then maybe use some touch up paint to hide it more.

For less than three or four thousand dollars? Are you sure?

I'm talking about the type of job where they strip the parts off and put 'em back on after they paint it. I mean, as opposed to a paint job where they use 100% masking tape and where they don't take any parts off the car. They paint the door jambs and everything. That's the kind of paint job I was thinking about.

^^I Lol'er Pooped^^

I had my car painted for 2 grand and it is a base clear job. Plus I had a lot of body work done to the car. I would sand the car down myself, do the body work and then take it and have it painted. That way, you may be able to save a little money. Body work isnt hard, just very very time consuming to do it right. And use good products, not cheap shyt.
