Just compiling some more info here:

from fordmuscle.com forums-
"It depends on what track rules you are running at. Lots of classes do not allow slicks. Even in Bracket Racing at most tracks, there are what is refered to Street , Sportsman Class, Pro, and Super Pro. The 1st 2 do not allow slicks, which would put you into Pro if they follow the rules. If you run in Pro or Super Pro, you are up against mainly serious racers, that reaction times do not varry much more than a few 100s of a second. "

"Then you run DOT slicks, like the MT ET-Street or Hoosier Quick Time Pro. You can still mount them on seperate wheels, and change when you get to the track..... especially if you're racing a truck. "

Thats it from that thread, if anything seems disputable please let me know. Or if you want to add something please do.

Im thinking right now, a MT DOT slick may be good on a 15" ten hole or something like the wheels on that firebird above. Still wondering about those wheels- kind, and dimensions (front a skinny??)......

My ponies are widened as mentioned in my sig. It ran me about $200 to get the pair done. I currently have 255/50/16's on it. I wanted the car to handle as well as hook. You can't have too wide a footprint trying to adhere to a too narrow rim. If you have rubber spilling over the side of the rims the car looks and handles poorly. Also don't be drawn into getting huge meats if your car doesn't warrant them. I always laugh inside a little when I see a John Force wannabe in an exhaust only New Edge with a pair of 315's on a 8" rim. Rim spillover FTMFL...

I love the 10 holes...I remember reading a comparo test way back in '90 when the LX went head to head with the IROC-Z. The testers found the 5.0 to be somewhat brutish but it bested the more expensive and bigger cube bowtie and carried on to be revelled as the best bang for the buck that year IIRC. 10 hole rims (widened out back), 2" drop and the same CC and shock/spring settup as I have looks deadly...

You can find weld wheels on craigslist all day long. I see sets of 4 with tires going for like $400 all the time

I had 26x10.50 slicks on 10 holes on my wifes vert. They are the same as 275's. They fit w/ no problem but there is some sidewall ballooning.

Well, thanks for the posts guys, Im just trying to figure out a good pair of rims to drag race with, something I dont have to spend much money on, something that will fit and do the job well, I always thought people said 10 hole mustang rims were good for this but still researching... I think what Pro50 has is what I was thinking, but I want to be sure this is the set up works right. (MTs on ten holes).

Like someone above said, I dont want too wide a tire, or too much ballooning..

I would rather not spend $400 unless its a great set up. Maybe a aluminum set of all 4 with skinnies up front would warrant $400 , Im assuming the alum would be lighter and be better yes? And skinnies does help a little on a drag car yes?
