1988 Mustang GT- Ebay Ad

i need a little help on this one. i sold my '88 five years ago and haven't really kept in touch with the value of these older stangs and nada and kelley blue book don't give values on cars this old. i'm curious if someone can do a carfax on this vehicle for me. the history page on ebay definitely gives me a red flag and the seller acts like it's no big deal. i also think it may be way overpriced with the mileage and history, but like i said it's been a while since i paid attention to what these go for. i've been looking for a while for a '88 t-top and i appreciate any help and input.

Vin: 1FABP42E2JF164214
Miles: 94,269 (assuming 194,269 from the history report)

if anyone could please take a look at this ad on ebay and tell me if i'm just paranoid or if i have reason to be concerned buying this car and also what this car would really be worth right now in it's current condition.

thanks a ton guys,
caleb

I would look at the ad on ebay if there was a link to it....

Looks like a clean car. But i wouldn't have my heart set on it. You should be able to get that car a little cheaper than $4500. I am always weary of a fox with a "big cam", gears, no a/c, and a carbeurator. Also that rust spot around the passenger side mirror kinda jumps out at me.

caleb205 07-08-2009 04:02 PM

yeah the rust is right where the trim is missing which tells me the whole door skin is probably shot. sorry about no link....i don't post in forums often and don't know how to post one. did you happen to look at the history tab? the odometer readings really jump out at me. according to the readings 78,000 miles were put on the car from 2/06-7/09. and it was listed at auction just a month ago with 125,000 miles. don't know too many people that can put that many miles on a 5.0l mustang especially with gas prices. plus it has been to dealer auction twice in its lifetime....which is a little odd for a 'rare' car.

Shelty 07-08-2009 10:22 PM

whys it got lx seats in it?

caleb205 07-08-2009 10:59 PM

interior is really pretty clean and i guess if i can pick it up for cheap i might do it. i'm really only looking for a toy and i've been a mustang nut for a while. my '88 was a street/strip car with almost 800hp with a vortech supercharger and 175 shot of NO. i'm not looking for anything that high tech but a little toy to drive around town every now and then would be pretty nice. what would this car be worth right now if i were to offer a price?

kilby94 07-09-2009 07:54 AM

Where i'm from that is probably a $2500-$3000 car....

Shelty 07-09-2009 12:18 PM

^^^same here.

from the pics the car looks alright. Around here, thats usually the going price for em around here (southern Ontario), not too too many 87-88 T-Tops around, at least in that price range. I've seen some people trying to sell em for over 10,000.

caleb205 07-09-2009 07:43 PM

yeah yeah trust me i heard it all the time about the stickers on the car. it was like that when i bought it though. guy i bought it from took it down the strip several times and showed slips in the mid 10's. i didn't do anything more that 'putz' around town in it. it was the 'sleeper' i was looking for...sure doesn't look like a race car. it was kind of nice toasting the viper that drives around town though. back to the ttop car though.....i was thinking the $3k is what i'd be looking to offer. appreciate all the input guys. i'll let you know what happens.

That car is no way a sleeper. Nitrous+Supercharger stickers all over is a clear giveaway no ?

But i think he was referring to the blue stickered car as a "sleeper"..

83gtragtop 07-09-2009 10:14 PM

So his old car made 800hp with a GT40 intake?:icon_dunce:

Thats what I thought.

caleb205 07-10-2009 10:18 AM

the 'sleeper' reference was pure sarcasm. not only could you tell the car was fast but you could hear the supercharger sucking air a block away. don't know how many times i had someone tell me i had a vacuum leak when it was just the supercharger. 800hp was at the flywheel. was actually a little lower though. something like 776hp. previous owner had the dyno chart backing it up. car was absolutely horrid to drive unless you were doing 60+ mph. tried taking my wife for a spin in it once....she didn't even make it 2 blocks and wanted out. once you opened her up though it was a blast to drive. to be honest....it was way too much for me. i like going fast, but 140mph with nothing more than a seat belt is stretching the limits for me. i ended up having a major surgery and the wife promised if i sold the car to pay off the medical bills i could get another stang in the future. i might just use this car to take her up on that. funny thing though....two retired guys pushing 70 yrs. old bought my old '88. they've been best friends forever and their lifelong dream was to drag race as a team.
