Default Should I trade my 3550 for these Twisted Wedge Heads?

The ad said they were in good shape but, they only brought 411 bucks on e-bay. I sent him a message an hour before the thing was over asking what he would take and he told me 800. I told him about the 3550 and that I might sell it on e-bay but, I couldn't come off the cash without selling it first.

What do you think? I have recently had the 3550 re-built and no one wanted it on other sites. I haven't seen one on e-bay in a while now so, I was thinking it may even bring 800 in a sale on e-bay. This would also include me coming off the bellhousing.

Sound's good to me. Your not going to get much more then that for the 3550. Ive seen them for sale for $1,000 around here. but that's kinda high for a used trans. 3550 or not.

hopefully the head's arnt warped or anything.

I get to look at them since he is just a couple of hours from here. The problem is, I am totally lost on what all to look for as to knowing how much work they will need.

He said that he bought them new. So that is a good sign. He had them on a 347. He also said that they take stock pushrods. I thought these needed a special length to work??

The pushrod length depends on the cam you run too. That is a tough decision though. If you are trying to get rid of the trans I would do it. As long as the heads have no physical damage and they are not warped heads are usually good.

Cool

i would hit up a tool store like harbor freight(if you have any stores like this) and pick up a straight edge and feeler gauges to measure how warped the head may be as a precaution because you cant aways see the thousandths of an inch of warpage that would make the head expensive to fix if not unfixable if he overheated the motor or something

i would also ask why he is selling these heads

I got some feeler gauges. The straight edge, what is that? I assume it is not the same thing as used in construction. thanks

anything that is metal that you know has a perfectly straight edge....like a metal ruler. Put it on its side from one corner of the head to the other diagonally and put the feeler gauge under it and see what readings you can get. Do from the other corners as well. There is a tolerance to it but IDK what it is. If its not too back you can get the heads shaved a little to fix it.

1000 is not high....I just bought a used one in excellent shape yesterday for 1200.00 but then again mine came with bellhousing, clutch fork, new TOB and a new MGW short throw shifter

wow, maybe I should stick this thing on e-bay

one thing that I noticed on e-bay is both the sellers are full of it when they describe their 3550s as the same thing as a tko or tko 500.

One guy is asking 1495 for a tremec 3550 tko with a 28 spline output shaft.
The other says his 3550 is the same thing as the tko 500.

I think I am going to bash their ads with pics of gears in mine and not totally back together, then promise a pic of it together Monday night just to steal a few buyers.
