94-95gt 5.0 question
First POST!!!
Hey guys. I've had my pony for a while now and after being pissed with my bro's 89gt rockin my world I did some research to find that its the ECU (i think) that is chockin my ride.
I was wondering what is would take to get rid of this problem.. via ecu swap, new aftermarket part, etc?
Any input would be greatly apreciated...
Thanks

oops sorry bout that. Engine wise it's pretty much stock aside from cold air and 3 in. cat back. Before I really get into it I wanted to make sure I know what i'm workin with.
I did some research and there were some that were saying the EEC-V used in these were trouble in the first years. It did things like retard the timing between shifts and such. It feels like my ride gets choked after moving to the next gear..

second, you haven't done **** to your car, and you expect it to be fast? LMAO
third, the car is EEC-IV. and yes, it does retard timing during shifts... by 5 degrees and only for .5 seconds... so if you REALLY think that the tip in retard is whats affecting your cars performance, you are sadly mistaken.
You wanna beat your brothers car? do the following...
Advance your timing to 12-14 DBTC, get 3.73-4.10 gears in the rear end of your car, Install a GT-40/Explorer intake manifold and GT-40 heads. get some headers and an offroad mid pipe.
If you take your time to find the parts I have listed, you can do the whole thing for about $1200.
The parts listed above will give you a pretty stout runner, add some adjustable shocks, upper and lower rear control arms and some sticky tires, and 12's wouldnt be out of the question!

since it wasnt mentioned and some people have to be told EVERYTHING...
make sure you run premium if you bump your timing and remove the SPOUT connector before you adjust it.
try cleaning you MAF too it helps a lot sometimes.
it feels chocked because its heavy and underpowered, ESPECIALLY on the top end. if possible hook it up to a wideband A/F meter and see where its running. chances are in the 15-16:1 ratio (ask me or ADDER about that, have the dyno sheets to prove it too). if money allows, go to a 255lph fuel pump and some 30# injectors. that way youll be set if your upgrades get more serious in the future. make sure you calibrate the ECU for the injectors.

Your SN-95 is slow for several reasons. First, the 94-95's weigh more, about 150lbs. Not much, but every small thing adds up. Secondly, we were stuck with the Thunderbird intake manifold that flows worse than crap. Also, the stock cam in our cars is NOT from the previous H.0. cams. That's why our cars cannot rev past 4300+rpm. In fact, it feels choked up throughout the power-band.Then you have the very conservative tune that is meant to preserve the transmission life, reduce performance and aid in emissions control. So a 3500lb car + an engine that can't rev at all + 215 horsepower + 3.08 gears + 10 degrees timing and a conservative tune = a mid 15 second quarter mile... at best!
