Yup, detonation eats rod bearings. It causes very high and sudden spikes in cylinder pressure that slam down on the rotating assembly and beat the rod bearings out. The high pressure is what also creates the heat that destroys the pistons. Detonation doesn't have to destroy the piston to pound the rod bearings.

In order for the engine to run smoothly the whole engine has to run correctly. If one cylinder is down on power the cylinder across from it is loaded harder in turn causing it to work harder.Example Top Fuel dragster, one cylinder stops burning the fuel, causing the engine to be out balance, breaking the rod across from it or atleast burning the head gasket.

There is a bearing reading chart, like a spark plug chart, somewhere on the net. If i find it, i will post a link.

I don't know what btdtst is.Most people watch Top fuel on tv and it is easy to relate too. It is just an internal combustion engine.

Except a fuel engine has almost nothing in common with a gasoline street engine. Aside from having some valves, heads, pistons and rods.

I do see what you're saying though, what happens on one bank of the engine can affect the other, it's all attached to the same crankshaft.

Where would be the line on that? Some engines today run on half the cylinders to conserve on gas mileage.

Yeah, but you have to have the right firing order and shut off the right cylinders to keep the engine in balance.

[QUOTE=capri debris;6410200]I hope you at least "mic-ed" the crank before you reused it. And plastigauge is your best friend... it's not uncommon to get a different size bearing than what's marked on the box.

i agree cosidering i went through two sets of bearing that were marked wrong haha
