first things... good choice, you'll love the 10's. i would use NO other gear in my 5-speed unless i had huge boost. make it hook and you'll have no wheel hop, all the low end gain you will really really need a sticky tire now, so do that and wheel hop is not an issue. if they are not spinning... it won't hop
but yeah speedo gear is an issue.
your '88 has a 7t drive gear so you will have to either use the non-ford 23t(white one) for it to be right on, or the ford 21t (red one) but will off about 5%
if you ever pull the tranny apart... do yourself a favor and put a black 6t drive (black) on the output shaft. it's about $10 and just clips on. then you can use a ford 20t (black) to be right on
i can't think of anything else other than maybe really making the rearend tight... it might skwak a bit on turns... but will break in nicely soon enuff
