Default machine shop pricing

just called my local machine shop, http://www.radautomachine.com/

i found their quote to be a little pricey, but they are the best of the best around here.
$460 to thermal clean, magnaflux, 030 bore and new cam bearing/freeze plugs.

sound about right?

there's a reason why you won't pay alot for that muffler at mieneke............despite what people think, they are not getting the same quality as an oem for cheaper, quality costs oats before they go through the horse or after they go through the horse??? hmmmmm

That don't sound to far out in price. I'd see if I couldn't find a shop with a hot tank for cleaning stuff however.

try you a few small engine builder shops...When I built my 393, the builder let me have a dummy block for 125. He LOST money just on the machining. The cam bearings and install seemed to be about 75. He washed it and honed it for free while I was there.

I spent money with him on the build so that may have had something to do with it but, you never know what kind of mood people are in.

Trim drip has a point there.
I've known a few machine shops that wouldn't even take your work in if you didn't buy all the parts fom them, at very high prices of course..........
