Don't know about heads, but I slapped a blower on a 140K stock motor and have run the shyt out of it. 160K on it now. I don't see why you couldn't do it w/ heads.

I just did it. New TrickFlow TW heads on my 86. The block only has 92k and was well maintained so I'm hoping to get a bunch more mileage out of it. I did a compression test yesterday and got a solid 180 - 190 psi on all cylinders. Only time will tell though.

Thats cool, I will be tempting the same fate.. I've had three sets of heads in the last year and only one set has made it on the car. I took those off after about a month, I'm worse than Brett Favre when it comes to desicions.

BTW my block has 93k on it and runs like a champ.

93 k is not high mileage, get out of that 60's/70's era mentality

Yeah, it's an old school mentality. Back in the 60's and 70's ring and lubrication technology pretty much sucked, so by around 70-80k miles you were losing ring seal. Old worn heads would leak as well around valves and valve stems, so slapping new heads on something like that could make the ring sealing problems worse. But, that was 40 years go and ring and lubrication technology has changed. A lot. There are guys that slap blowers and heads on engines with 200k and are fine.

I guess I shouldn't have considered 92k high mileage, especially on a car I know the maintenance history on. Surprisingly, I did have a number of people suggesting I shouldn't bother with the heads and cam if I wasn't going to rebuild the bottom end. I thought that was nuts. I figure I'm good for at least another 60k.
