What Should I Be Looking For?
Hiya guys, I have been in the market for a cheap 5.0 fox body, cheap being under 3k. I want to build it as a strictly track car, but I don't want to just throw my money at something without looking at it or knowing just what to look for. A guy I know is selling his, I haven't seen it in person. So, what I want to know, is if I went to look at it, what should I be looking for with this generation. The downside is the fact it is a auto, I would rather have a 5spd, but I guess if I am gonna redo everything, I may as well do that. The only issue is I would rather not have to mess with it. Here is the mod list, he purchased it planning on doing it up, but with these tough economic times and such he has to get rid of it. Supposedly the hood flew up on this one and the cowl is still damaged, I don't know what damage is done to the hood or if he replaced it. I did notice the passengers side hood was raised, but like I said, I haven't seen the damage. Here is the listing: http://washingtondc.craigslist.org/m...462325052.html Regardless, I would like to get my hands on one by the new year in order to start working on it and getting it ready for the track next season. I love my new edge, so I am not sure what I will do as far as that goes...
So, in summary, what do you see wrong with this picture? What else should I be looking for? Are you seeing anything I should be alarmed about? Thanks.

If you are going to redo everything anyway and make it a track car then I wouldnt buy this car at all if I were you. Find a good straight rust free 4 banger. 4bangers can be picked up for way less than 3k. I bought mine for 500$ and turned it into my sig car.

I just picked a 91 GT up with 172K in good condition for 1800 bucks. When you get ready to buy just look at the dipstick make sure the oil doesnt smell like fuel or coolant and check the radiator and res. make sure its not all foamy and nasty. And most of all, take it on a good test drive!
