Default Letting a motor sit for the winter..

Well im getting ready to take my motor out so i can clean up the engine bay, rewire the car, ect ect. My question is, is it bad to let the motor just sit on the stand all winter for like the valve springs or something? Sorry if thats a dumb question but i had to ask...

i was just told to turn it every once in a while
