they can be, but your going to be extremely limited on parts that will pass emissions and still make power.

you have to have a way to get air in and air out to make power. The stock heads, cam and intake will not allow that.

what should i do a h/c/i on my current engine then do 347 short block?

remember i want it to be smog legal so all the h/c/i parts that i get would be 50 state legal

i was first thinking go h/c/i then forced induction to geet my the rest of my way.But i dont know how mush psi i can throw at the block before it goes boom.thats whenn i started to think about 347 and doing a topend set up on there and getting where i wanted with no forced induction, that way when/if i wanted more power i still had the choice of a forced setup.

cant do it all at once otherwise i wouldn't be here. im getting anxious and thinking of getting a procharger or somthing for first mod. but im also not feeling to comfortable about that idea.

if i did got a h/c/i that was designed to operate up to 6500+rpm on my stock bottom end is it safe to do so?

your stock h/c/i on a 347 would make no more power then your making now.

you can make a 347 make good power and still be legal. your best bet would be a set of afr 185 heads, custom cam and not sure on intake but they make good ones that are 50 state legal

hmm thought i would gain something...

well i wanted to purchase the afr 185s in the next few weeks maybe with a cam i might wait and get the can along with the intake manifold..

the afr 185s says emissions legal and so far they are the highest flowing emissions legal heads i have come across

also would i have to notch my pistons?(i have a 89 )there site says 86's have to be notched
