Default Help me with my new 5.0

I just bought a 89 mustang LX 5.0 and dont really know too much about it. I was wondering if anyone can help me out. I want to make the engine look nice because right now its kind of rusty. Any cleaning tips? and also there is a round piece sort of in the middle of the motor with 8 wires plugged into it. I seen on someone elses motor they have changed the black plugs with red ones anyone where i can buy these plugs and the name of them? Thanks , John

1. Pick up a Haynes repair manual
2. Read it cover to cover
3. Come back to MF with a proper post

I had a buddy call me a minute ago wanting to know if a sandblaster will take rust off an alternator bracket. Stupid question but, i have never used one.

anyway, I have the round piece that is red. It is made by Msd. i got a spare for half price if you want. They also make other stock round pieces for a little cheaper than the MSD. Also, MSD wires are red.

wow, way to stereotype an entire state....

there is a guy who used to post here name markneib, he had a really good technique for cleaning out his engine inside and out....

make sure you replace the muffler bearing, usually they go bad on cars that old... but only a car shop can do it... and make sure you specify ceramic coated muffler bearings, they last longer
