o-ring on dipstick tube

o-ring on dipstick tube
my dad is dead convinced that there should be a o-ring at the bottom of the dipstick where it meets the block, im pretty sure there never was one there. whos right?

thank you very much, all i have left to do is stab the dizzy, and time it. she should be running today if all goes well.

No o ring is correct but I'm not surprised your Dad thinks there should be one there.
The fit is between the dipstick tube and the block is grossly loose. Considering there is vacuum in the crankcase it would be a good idea to seal the two better than it is.
