3.55's Gear Choice Help
So, recently ive made a few posts, im redoing the rearend in the spring, after long hard thinking, im getting gears.
So i started to look for a used set of 3.55's, and to my surprise, there are alot of sellers! Who here is rocking the 3.55's or is everyone just skipping the mid person and going straight to the 3.73s? Its a dd, so i do not want to do 3.73s. Im looking at a used set out of a 98' F150 3.55's that have been sitting in oil for ten years. That apparently only had 3500km on them at the time. The guy said it was an 8.8" , but did the 98 F150 come with gears that are compatible with the mustang rear end? Or is this guy yanking my chain? Also i offered him $75 cdn. So like 65 american. vs, 180 new from ford usd. |
Just go with the 3.73 dude, imo its not worth it to go to 3 08 to 355. How much do you drive it on the highway and at what speeds do you prefer to cruise at?

arent they 3.27s stock in the 5.0 ?
highway not so much, more city then anything. 2 and from work 4 months of the summer, when im on the high way im at 75mph i heard a guy on here say with his 3.55's he did 2400 at 75 ? thats why hes had the 3.55's for so long everyone wants the 3.73 |
and i going to get raped in the city with 3.73s?
|
you'll get better MPG in the city
8.8 equipped 5.0L mustangs came with 2.73s(~1800rpms@70mph), 3.08s and 3.27s(convertibles) |
my car apparently has had 3:73s in it the whole time, and I DD the car and never have a problem at all, the car just accelerates rather quick
|
Oh **** haha i thought i had 3.27s, thought i read that somewhere.
Hmm. Now im very interested in this swap. How long does first gear last haha. And how do i know if i have the 2.73s or 3.08s? |
And how would/do i get better mpg?
|
You would get better mpg around the city only because it is easier to accel.
I am working on a fox body right now that went with an trutrac diff, moser axles, and 4.10 gears. Best bet would be just go with 3.73s unless you really want 3.55s but if you buy them used make sure the wear pattern is good on them. You want the wear to be in the center of the ring and pinion gears. |
