pick the cam based on the way its going to perform, not the way it sounds.. My car almost idles like stock but the cam is no where close to being stock.

if you want a lopey idle, get a COMP THUMPR cam.
but how often is youre car idling...? you want it to sound mean while everyone else goes out and races?
cmon seriously...
get real cam, open the valves quick and hard, keep em open, and make some serious HP. who cares what it sounds like. id rather have a sleeper like primes.
+infinity for sleepers

+1 for answering the posters question and desires. -1 for then back-slapping yourself
1)comp thumpr not a real cam? duh...
2)open valves "HARD"?? oh my!
3)Who cares? the poster :-)
sorry to growl just having a little fun. but QnA forums are all about the OP's desires, no? so if folks want sound without all the fury let them, not everybody races their car every day, be it a daily driver or not - or cares about optimizing their combo. Ill grant you that he is meandering about a bit...maybe a bit lost
If he really wants 400hp on a NA 302 he would probably not end up with the mildest cam, but based on his responses he might not know what hes getting into or asking for... could be wrong... maybe not.

if you want it to thump at idle, pull a bunch of vacuum lines loose. the leak will make it sound like it has a cam.
if you want some actual performance out of the thing, get a cam that matches the heads and intake your using
