Exhaust difference between GT and LX foxes ?
Can anyone explain what is the difference between the GT and LX exhausts ? LX cat-back exhaust systems are 100$ more than the GT ones, so I would like to know what warrants the 100$ premium.
Thanks.
Thanks.

The fact of the GT pipes being turned down gives them a different sound from the straight back LX ones. And yes, as stated, the LX pipes cost more because you can see a lot of them at the ends and thay are made to look pretty (and often get wider too). My GT pipes are just plain, right to the ends.
GT exhaust tends to sound deeper and more rounded as the sound bounces off the pavement right behind the car. It's more of a really bassy droning sound (and bass travels). When I'm approaching pedestrians at, say, 40 mph and they are still way off in the distance ahead of me, their heads often start turning to see what's coming - even though most of my sound is being projected in the other direction away from the back of the car.
LX exhaust tends to sound crisper, sharper and 'angrier', but with less bass. When I'm behind an LXer I can pretty much hear everything going on inside his engine.
I love both sounds and am very happy to be part of either one of them. I've been listening to cars since I could hear, and nothing sounds like a 5.0 HO.
To my dismay, over the years, I have seen people who have run straight LX pipes on a GT by literally cutting parts of the rear GT skirt away. Some did a fairly good job, others with a shaky hand and a hack saw. I never cared for this look and it always struck me as outright blasphemous.

Don't mean to bring up an old thread, but I was wondering if, besides the difference in look and sound, if the GT tailpipes hang lower than the LX because of the ground effects, or if they hang down the same distance from the car. I need a new exhaust for my LX, I can get a good price on the GT exhaust and figured I could cut off most of the tailpipe and weld some SS tips on it to get an LX look for a fraction of the price. I am just worried that it might hang lower and look funny. Any thoughts?

The only difference is the tips. The GT just stops short and turns down. It is hidden by the GT bumper... the LX bumper is not as low so the exact same pipes show.
Your idea can work... but will prob be a pain in the ***. IF you have stock exhaust and want to get aftermarket gt stuff. It will not work without a reducer.
