removing stock stereo
Im trying to get the stock radio out of a 88 gt. I got the removal tools, but the radio doesnt seem to wanna come out. Barely even moves. Feels like something is holding it down...are there any screws to take off?

When you put the removal tools in, you have to either push then in towards each other or out away from each other. There should also have a spring type retention on them if they are installed properly. Can't remember which as it's been a while, it should slide right out.

hey you were right on. i searched most articles about removing it, and they all said to jam in the tools as far as they can. but if you only put it in a lil bit and wiggle em outwards, it will slide right out.
the new stereo was taken out of another mustang. one of the wiring adapters fits into the stock adapter. but the other one is a whole different shape, its not the long rectangle, it is square. and it has more wires...how can i make this work?

its 87-93 4 banger. i think its a 91.
the picture in this link is what i have going on. the black standard harness piece pictured is the one i have coming out of the dash and nothing to connect it to. the gray one fits a gray connector from new stereo. the "square" connector looks liek the one pictured as under ford "amplified" wiring harness.

the audio shop should have given you correct connectors to plug into the wiring harness, if this is true, then you should be good to go. the connectors should bypass the stock amp wiring, as the stock amp will only work with ford radios.

no im really lost. first the deck had a rectangle and square connector. but the stock connectors under the dash were both rectangle. the audio place gave me a rectangle connector for the deck so it will fit the connector under the dash. but theres no sound. i havent done anything with the amp. are there any other steps?
