Default Header paint suggestions?

I just bought some used JBA shorty headers, there're alittle rusty looking to paint them with some high heat paint, that won't peel off any suggestion or comments on what to use or is it best just to leave alone.I read some real nightmares where people painted their headers and it all bubbled right up from the heat and they l@@ked like ****..I know there are some places you can send them out to have ceramic coating put on them, but I don't want to spend another $175 for that!.......

The thing about high heat paint is that most of them can resist intermittent doses of the high heat or the flashes of it not constant abuse. I'm sure there are some that can but most can't.

Blast the headers completely clean. Then clean them till they are beyond clean. Wait till a sort of warm day. Then let them set out in the sun for hour or so. Then wipe them down with lacquer thinner.
Then use 'VHT' brand paint, no primer. Just put on thin coats. Let dry for 24 hours.
This has worked for me several times.....
Good Luck

I think i'm going to put them on the way they are. They cant look any worse than the rusty factory ones, that look like crap. The 5.0 will finally be able to start to breathe again with these headers!........:>)

If you can get them sand blasted i'd paint them for sure, I've had great luck with VHT Flameproof header paint (1300-2000 degrees). The trick is to not use more than necessary, you just want to cover them and that's it.

x2 the vht stuff works great. any normal engine paint for 500/1200 degrees never works.
