honestly just look for a car in good shape. mainly the body. engines and trannys are a dime a dozen and if you plan on modding it then those will prob get replaced or rebuilt n e ways. $4k should net you a car in good body and mechanical shape. if you buy a car for $2k tryin to save money you will prob end up spending the rest just repairing it, even if it runs correctly at the time of purchase.
oh and 19jacks71 um sry but ur car isnt worth $3500 as a 4cyl.. there is a guy selling one with ponys and gt seats with a decent body around me for $1k

Dang, I'd never pay anywhere near 1k even. The most I've spent for a Mustang was 500 and it was on the ex4banger that is in my sig. Before I bought my Focus I was driving a very solid 91 notch that I picked up for 225$

I still have it. It sits out my grandmas house(she lives in the country). I also have an 84 vert with a v6 in it out there too. The vert is PERFECT, no rust or anything. Interior isn't bad at all either. I need to do something with that one. I have a 91 5.0 tbird donor car that I plan on pulling the powertrain out of and putting in the vert.

This is the only pic of the vert I have. This is when we picked it up from the old guys house. It was in his garage for like 16 years or something. Looks like there is a dent on the fender and the bumper cover needs to be repainted so I lied..
