Default Looking to buy a foxbody

I've always been really into the classics and already have a '67 coupe. I want to get a foxbody to build for speed at the track and street. My budget is about $4,000. Do you guys think I can find a clean fox and build the 5.0 into a beast on a limited spending budget? I'm thinking new heads, 4:10 rear-end gears and exhaust.

Things I already know: That it should be a factory V8 car so I don't have to convert it. That it shouldn't be a convertible due to the extra weight. That it should be a '89-'92 so that it will have forged pistons and not the '93+ hypereutectic ones. What else should I look out for?

And whats the deal with GT vs. LX 5.0 models? Is it just trim and interior?

GT v. LX is cosmetic. Check the torque boxes for abuse/rips. Look for something solid especially if you're going to run it at the track. Check the floor pans, under the doors, hatch and above the k-member for rust too. If the driver's seat is twisted or broken/leans the car has probably been hammered on. Also run through the gears in the tranny good. You can usually tell pretty easily if they've been hammered.

Are you including the purchase of the car in the budget as well, or is that just a mod budget?

$4000 is just enough to buy the car... you wont be able to mod much unless you buy a complete POS or total basket case

eeek. 4k for car AND modifications will be a tough one. Well, that is if you want a fox in decent condition.

GT vs Lx is cosmetic..but also weight. GTs weigh more.

Except mine is a hatch.
If I were you op, find a nice ride and wait until later to mod it. Trust me, you WILL get the itch to spend more money on it. 4k is getting you nowhere.
