In this case I'd seriously look into a custom cam to have the valve events just right to maximize the heads you'll be using

Download the cam chooser program from Comp Cams.
http://www.compcams.com/CAMQUEST/

I chose mine with that, it's really cool. You input as much info about your engine and it provides a list of recommended cams based on your goals. It even displays a full torque/HP curve that changes with your cam choice or any other changes to your engine configuration.

Call Jay or Ed and get a custom cam, that way you'll never have to wonder if you could have had more. There are decent OTS cams out there, but if you have the budget for a custom grind, get one.

first off,you pretty much have to change the fuel pump. it's cheap and easy to do. the 88 lph is not enough for stock.and a fuel pressure reg that you can adjust. i know everyone will hack on me know but i like the letter cam or similar cam.i have a 2040 cam or an e-cam.it has a choppy idle sound but is pretty tame. just look it up on youtube.allso i had major problems when i tried to cut corners.you need to change your maf and get a cai.my gt40's were pretty worked over but i couldn't get my car to run until i let it breath.it was trying to take air from everywere when i had the stock air filter and maf.so trust me when i say do it all at once.you don't have to spend allot but you do have to spend! it all works well but only as a package, otherwise you are wasting your money.

Default I wrote to this guy and he said this ..

bolt on the heads and u/l use a B303 camshaft installed 4* advanced. 19 lbs will be close to their limits, but will work! You will NEED a performance spring for any rev or performance running.

Work to the 40's?? from a good performance valve job.. to ported and polished/new valve springs/moly retainers and keepers bolt on ready..roller rockers are worth 3-5 HP and cost $200-350.00
Stock rockers are great, and cost nothing!
1.7 over the stock 1.6 will increase the cam lift!! that is all!

Why not 1) run the stock rockers and valve train?? 2) buy the cam lift you want and save the cost of cam AND rockers??

Doing a budget is fine.. but you will be at ONLY so many tricks to build power!! Even if you spend a lot of money and dont do the rest right, you wont have the power you think you have.

The worked GT40s (695.00) the matched Lower ( 50.00) the B303 cam advanced 4* ( 325.00 ) will allow as much or more than a set of alloy heads without the rest of the mods ( 1100.00 + ) !! So you ARE building cheap power, yes?

What do you guys think about using this cam and the price for doing the heads? He was from Thumper Performance..........

anyone recommending a letter cam nowadays would be the last person I'd listen to, to bad you live far away, one ride in my 89 and you'd be sold on the cam ED designed for me, light on duration, lots of lift = .550+ and hauls easily past 6k, no B cam advanced 4 degrees will even rev or touch what ED whipped up for me
