What trannies can be dropped in a 94 GT?

Default What trannies can be dropped in a 94 GT?

The one im interested in MAY be going out. My buddy has driven it 12k miles with no issues but something is wrong it has 240k on it.

Are they T45s?

Without any modifications what all trannys will work in a 94-95 GT? 5spd

Ok so I found out they are borg warner T5s

I also see that they were in chevy and pontiacs

Will the ones out of a firebird work? Theres a guy selling his borg warner T5 out of his 89 firebird V6 5spd for $200

a trans from a 94 or 95 mustang GT will work.

also a 94/95 Cobra.

thats all that will bolt in.

fox trannies will NOT work.

as stated you need a ford t-5 from a mustang within your range of years 94-95

dont the V6 trannies have garbage 1st gears though? really short. or mayeb its just that the engines dont rev at all.

a Cobra T5 would be nice you get the 2.95 1st and its a good deal stronger than the regular GT's T5.

I keep reading Ill need to switch out the tail housing and then I see alot that say I wont.

Do you know this to be a fact? And all I would need to do is take mine out of my stock tranny and put it in the 99-04 V6 T5 right?

V6 T5's are virtually the same as the fox T5, save the longer input shaft. They run the 265ft/lb torque rating, unlike the 300 with the 94-95 GT. the 4 banger T5 had the garbage 1st gear

Also, the Cobra T5 has a 3.35 first gear... just like the GT.

yes, the tailshaft housing MUST be swapped with a pre-99. if you get a 99-04, you will also have to make a notch in the output shaft of the trans to mount the speedo gear.

would seem to me that since your prospective car HAS a T5 in it... you could pull the tailshaft housing off both (since you have to swap anyway) and figure it out on your own.
