Best way to remove outer trim moldings around car!!!!

Default Best way to remove outer trim moldings around car!!!!

Im getting ready to get my car painted its 89lx, whats the best way to remove the outter molding off the car, the pieces that run around the whole car along the middle of the door, i noticed some are bolted, ive got those, not what about the ones that are taped, whats the easiest way? thanks

just yank them off, often after removal , no matter how careful they won't lay flat, I removed the metal backing that the tape was stuck to , in order to get mine to lay flat again, worked great, then I reapplied 3m tape to them and they have firmly stayed in place for 8 years so far

Mike, you mean you removed the metal backing from the molding itself? Damn shrinkage gets the best of everyone. Plastic in this case.

i removed mine by just pulling them off.... and aftter painting the car they alll lay flat, gues it just depends on how you yank them off

If they lay flat or not depends on how weather beaten they are. The plastic on the outside shrinks and pulls the ends of the strip away from the car. The metal strip prevents the back side from shrinking.

Tony I did it on my 85, had no choice they were all peeling up anyway and they may have shrunk a tad but not enough to take notice
